american magazine conference

Presented on media engagement with Medill colleagues Ed Malthouse and Rachel Mersey, in connection with forthcoming book Medill on Media Engagement. Big themes at good event: rollback of postal increase; rise of digital, especially iPad, name change of  organization to Association of Magazine Media. Consumer mags moving, but many still print-centric per revenue.

Abe Peck Music-director son Doug was on “Chicago Tonight” with director Mary Zimmerman and the two leads of “Candide,” which is about to open at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago and already has been extended. national magazine awards

Big upset: Men’s Health over The New Yorker in General Excellence. Next: Glamour as “Magazine of the Year.” But note that this is the only cross-platform award in this competition.

My Senegal Story in current Travel Weekly

Made the trip to November; now part of an Africa print package. See http://www.travelweekly.com/article3_ektid212148.aspx Took story photos for first time in awhile. News hook is new giant statue commemorating country’s 50th anniversary and African freedom from slavery and colonialism, as compared with the slave house of Goree Island. Plus travel encounters. Enjoy!
